Joan Pere Plaza received his PhD in 2009 for his thesis on European political parties. He has taken part in research projects at a number of centres, including the Université catholique de Louvain, the Observatoire des institutions européennes at the Centre d’études européennes de Sciences Po Paris, and the Centro de Estudios Avanzados at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina). Between 2011 and 2013 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science and Sociology at the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.

His areas of interest include the political system of the European Union (with a focus on institutional matters) and the methodology of the social sciences.

He currently divides his time between teaching few course on European Politics and Regional Integration Processes at ESCI-UPF and working on the project “Democratización de la Unión Europea y decisión reglamentaria: un análisis cuantitativo de la comitología”.
